Back in 1992 Dr Richard Fitzgerald and I started AquaTT and I have been on the Board of Directors since 2000 including a term as Chairman from 2003 – 2005.

The central theme to my academic research has related to molluscan aquaculture and fisheries.  In addition to 50 peer reviewed papers I have produced over 70 technical reports and magazine articles which bring the research results to the industry in an understandable format.  Recent research projects include:  the interactions between aquaculture/fisheries and the environment, artificial diets and nutrition of gastropod molluscs, restoration of shellfisheries, mesocosms as alternative bivalve hatcheries, the effects of harmful algal blooms on commercial shellfish and the management of scallop and mussel seed fisheries.  I am currently working on a steering committee to implement marine graduate programmes in Irish universities and acting as consultant to two harbour authorities.
