Mark has 29 years working experience in the fisheries and marine food area of which 18 years have been directly in the aquaculture sector. He is experienced with both research and commercial ventures having served on the boards of several aquaculture companies in Ireland. He is the former chair of the Irish Shellfish Association and is currently manager of Taighde Mara Teoranta, the aquaculture research subsidiary of Údarás na Gaeltachta. Taighde Mara provide aquaculture and inshore fisheries support and technology transfer in the Gaeltacht. There is a strong emphasis on the development of indigenous resources and training of local people as entrepreneurs.
He holds a Masters Degree in Rural Development from National University of Ireland, Galway and a degree in Marine Zoology from Trinity College, Dublin.
