AQUA-TNET unveils its vision at stakeholder event

The European thematic network, AQUA-TNET, offers a fresh approach to aquaculture, fisheries and aquatic resource management. The network, funded under the European Commission Lifelong Learning Programme, is the most comprehensive for the aquaculture, fisheries and aquatic resource management sectors in Europe. The first stakeholders meeting of the new phase that started in 2008, took place on May 18th -19th at Ghent University in Belgium, giving stakeholders – industry, research, consumers and students - the unique opportunity to interact directly with education representatives.

The meeting was attended by 26 members from across Europe. Since its first phase, membership of this Erasmus thematic network has grown from 20 partner institutions in 1996, to 120 members today.  It includes 70 higher education institutes as well as representatives from industry, consumer groups, researchers and students.
Core activities were launched and past results were on show during the event. The stakeholder groups, representing student, industry, research and consumer interests, had the opportunity to meet the work package leaders and each work package group invited attendees to question and answer sessions.

The network was able to review expected outcomes and results, agree on the working methodology and timetable, understand the planned opportunities for interaction between core groups, and discuss plans for the 2009 Annual Event. Demonstration sites of web portals on MSc and PhD courses and mobility will be on public display later this year.

For further information about AQUA-TNET visit: www.aquatnet.com
